![]() White Hart Inn
Location: Stockbridge, Winchester, SO20 6HF [map]
Phone: 0845 206 1287 Open: Food servedMon-Sun noon-2.30pm, 6.30pm-9.30pm (9pm Sun) Stockbridge made its name when Edward VII used to visit his mistress Lily Langtry; today visitors flock from everywhere to have a go at the much less clandestine pursuit of fishing in the River Test. For efueling and general recuperation The White Hart, a recently refurbished 16th century coaching inn, really hits the spot. The White Hart more than delivers its promise of great food, great ale, great atmosphere and great prices. Mostly local produce is used to conjure dishes like Chef’s own steak and ale pie; this is a veritable trip down memory lane, with hand-made short crust pastry and a terrific filling of tender beef oozing with rich, beery gravy, blending beautifully with creamy chive mash. Menus are wide and varied, with home-made daily specials and separate sandwich and baked potato listings. This is pub grub at its best, complemented by welcoming winter fires, excellent coffees and traditional Bed and breakfast, in quaint, beamed rooms (formerly stables) starts from £60. Private parties are catered for in style and pretty gardens and an outdoor patio all add to this pub’s charm. < return to search results |
