Weston-super-Mare may not be the first place you'd look for really authentic Indian cuisine, but next time you're craving curry, you should make a detour to this seaside resort. Hussain's Restaurant, just a stone's throw from the Grand Pier, serves an eclectic range of Indian dishes, reflecting the nature of the ethnically diverse, culturally rich Subcontinent.
The menu is wonderfully varied, incorporating beautifully fresh ingredients with wholesome spices and herbs. Dishes burst with flavour and unique aromas drift into the street, tempting passers-by and making diners' mouths water. The head chef and his kitchen staff prepare food from scratch, so not one ounce of flavour is lost.
To begin, try king prawn puekhawa (spiced king prawn grilled in the clay oven) or share a mixed platter of starters between two. Next, order satkara fangasah fish (sweet water fish from the Bay of Bengal with sylheti citrus fruit) or, for something a little more unusual, the aromatic rabbit meetha with almonds, brandy, palm sugar and honey is delicious. Chefs will be delighted to prepare any dish your heart desires and, of course, all your old favourites are on the menu, from dansak and dupiaza to vindaloo and jalfrezi.
For unique, colourful dishes and outstanding service, look no further than Hussain's. You'll be back before you know it.
