This traditional pub is well worth finding - situated just off the eastbound A27 between Chichester and Arundel, it's ideally located if you're planning time at Fontwell Park Racecourse or Goodwood.
With country pub charm and oodles of dining space, plus open fires for those chilly evenings, this homely pub offers a range of home-cooked food freshly prepared on site. Under new ownership and with a newly designed menu and selection of specials to match, we chose from a tempting range of dishes. Our starters were simple but scrumptious - pan-fried king prawns with garlic butter and mixed leaf salad, plus a salad of roasted Mediterranean vegetables with feta cheese and a balsamic dressing. From the good choice of mains, which includes options for vegetarians, we chose the fillet of smoked haddock and the roasted breast of chicken. Presentation of both dishes was superb and worthy of any high-quality city restaurant. The dessert board offers a choice of popular favourites, such as a red berry Eton Mess which oozes with the taste of summer, and a comforting cinnamon and orange bread and butter pudding, which has spicy warmth and a citrus tang.
The Winterton Arms is a free house establishment presenting a good range of real ales and a reasonably priced wine selection. The pub also offers a popular roast on a Sunday and an eclectic and interesting range of salads are available throughout the week. On balmy summer evenings you can venture outside to find an ample garden; the abundance of dining space makes this pub the perfect venue for your next celebration.
You could easily drive by Crockerhill without knowing about this tucked-away little gem, but I encourage you to seek it out.
