Amid the vivacity of Shepherd’s Bush, just a stroll from both Goldhawk Road and Shepherd’s Bush tube stations, Tatra is an inviting place to kick back and relax away from the rat race.
Head chef Robert Kusy has had a stellar career, appearing on UKTV’s New British Kitchen, taking on the role of food advisor for an Oscar-nominated film, and working alongside celebrity chefs at the 2009 Foodies Festival at Hampton Court. He also runs a top catering company, Robert Kusy LLP – visit www.robertkusy.com to find out more. His ever-changing menu at Tatra features a variety of modern Polish and European dishes. I began with the barszcz (clear beetroot soup with croquette), while my partner tried the pierogi, tasty Russian dumplings with braised onion and bacon. Next was Hungarian goulash and kaczka – roast duck with red cabbage and Silesian dumplings. We concluded with apple and rhubarb crumble and nalesniki – crepes with cream cheese, rum, raisins and almonds. We couldn’t leave without trying one of the 28 vodkas on offer, several of which are delicious homemade tipples. Tatra also offers a number of wines, plus healthy drinks hailing from the Amazon.
Tatra opened in October 2008 and, just a year later, won an Archant Food and Drink Award, having been voted ‘Best Modern European Restaurant’ by diners. This comes as no surprise, as Tatra offers value-for-money, exciting cuisine in a friendly atmosphere – a perfect combination.
