The name gives away this stylish restaurant’s setting, but don’t be fooled, this 16th-Century cellar isn’t blanketed with dust and darkness – instead you’ll discover a beautifully converted haven of exquisite, award-winning cuisine and a comfortable, warm atmosphere in which to enjoy it. Located half way along Smith Street, The Cellar is perfectly positioned in the heart of historic Warwick.
The mouth-watering modern French food is created by chef and patron Lee Kalaker (see chef profile, page 40), and he brings with him a wealth of culinary expertise, having achieved three AA rosettes and worked at numerous Michelin-starred restaurants. His seasonally led menus use the freshest and finest quality produce available from local sources and from the finest French markets, and everything is freshly prepared in house. Try the pan-fried cod cheeks with a potato and mustard seed salad to start, and follow with a main of roasted fillet of English beef with a herb crust and wild mushroom sauce. There are tempting desserts, including a delicious chocolate and raspberry tart with red berry sorbet, and the wine list is excellent. During the summer months the sun terrace is open, offering afternoon cream teas, cakes and pastries as well as a range of sandwiches, salads and light meals. Choose the Champagne afternoon tea, which includes a strawberry cream tea and a glass of Champagne, for a truly luxurious taste of summer.
