Nook & Cranny is a charming family-run restaurant in the pretty village of Hook. Located next to the village green, this attractive 18th-Century establishment offers quality French cuisine and an extensive wine list. The cordial proprietors, Colin and Pam Wood, have owned the restaurant for nearly 25 years, and have built up an excellent reputation locally for delivering a simple yet elegant menu using fresh produce sourced from local suppliers.
Having originally trained at The Box Tree in Ilkley, now of Marco Pierre White fame, Colin has created an impressive list of starters. Highlights include soufflé Suissesse, a twice-baked soufflé flavoured with Gruyére cheese and baked in a cream sauce, and the delectably rich parfait de foie de volaille - smooth chicken paté flavoured with Port and Madeira wine.
Signature main courses include succulent English fillet steak, expertly cooked and served with a green peppercorn and brandy sauce, Dauphinois potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables, or the delicious supreme of duck grilled with honey and cloves, served with a subtle, delicately flavoured jus. There are also several fish choices, including sea bass grilled in olive oil and accompanied by a tomato, basil, lemon and coriander sauce. The menu also boasts some divine, mouth-watering desserts such as the rich tarte au chocolat sorbet - what a wonderful, indulgent way to bring a memorable meal at Nook & Cranny to a close.
