The Star Inn, located in the small village of Ponthir, attracts both regulars and visitors from further afi eld. With an eye-catching menu with something for every palate, the homemade dishes boast quality ingredients and fresh produce. We began our feast with king prawns drizzled in garlic and chilli, and pineapple- and chilli-battered squid. Partial to steak, I chose the 12oz rump steak, while my partner opted for roast pork belly. We rounded off our feast with Black Forest gateau and a medley of ice creams. The renowned Sunday lunch requires advance booking, and the popular pensioner’s special deal isn’t to be missed. As far as value for money goes, the offering at this pub takes some beating. It’s not just a Star by name – it comes out on top for attention to detail, service and great food.
