Whether it's a quick dinner for two after a long day at work or Sunday lunch for the family, The Heron Marsh offers an extensive menu of traditional pub fare. All main meals are two-for-one, with portions ample enough to satisfy the hungriest of rugby players.

My choice of chicken korma (£7.95) followed by a hot jaffa pudding (£2.65) satisfied my craving for comfort food on a chilly January evening.

Ever-enhanced by a nice glass of red, I found the wine menu to be of extremely good value, with a variety of city-standard brands.

For those fancying just a small bite, there is a pleasing selection of lighter portions, such as steak and ale pie (£5.25), Italian chicken (£5.45) and even rump steak (£6.95). Starters consist of mouth-watering combos, soups and finger foods, and there is a great range of side dishes.

A 'Wacky Warehouse' for the kids, beer garden for that summer evening drink and an inviting interior of wooden beams, rustic brick and panelled bar all add up to the perfect retreat year round.
