The Hardwick

Located in beautiful countryside just outside the market town of Abergavenny, The Hardwick has become a serious gastronomic destination. It began life as a country pub in the 1800s and was taken over in 2005 by Stephen Terry and his wife, who have transformed it from a dated roadside pub into a top-notch restaurant with rooms, awarded five stars by Visit Wales. Today, The Hardwick offers eight luxury bedrooms in a peaceful annexe, a large bar area (open for drinks all day) and extended dining rooms.

The award-winning restaurant remains at the heart of this idyllic escape and Stephen, having learnt his craft alongside Michel Roux and Marco Pierre White, has developed an ethos of simple food cooked well. Quality ingredients, locally sourced where possible, are accompanied by local draught beers and an extensive wine list, all served in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Stephen has designed the menu to offer something for everyone, incorporating contemporary dishes like linguine with fried minced rabbit and chorizo, as well as old favourites such as beer-battered cod and 21-day-aged Johnny Morris rib-eye steak with slow-roast Italian tomato, Portobello mushroom, triple-cooked chips and delicious Béarnaise sauce.
