Copthorne Hotel

The four star Copthorne Hotel is a lovely venue to relax and dine in. It’s conveniently situated on the route to the city’s airport, with plenty of parking. You can dine in style in the elegant Raglans Restaurant or chill with a beer, loaded burger or succulent steak in the cosy Burges Bar, overlooking a pretty lake. My companion began her meal with a prawn cocktail. This dish consisted of juicy prawns in a piquant sauce, with thinly sliced toasted ciabatta and fresh salad. My summery tart, comprising goat’s cheese, butternut squash, red onion, asparagus and a light flaky pastry base was a lovely light appetiser.

I followed with the hake fillet, which was beautifully flaky – a very pleasing dish overall. My friend’s seafood medley was generous, featuring all manner of fish, including crispy skinned sea bass, garlic mussels and tiger prawns, finished with vegetable fricassee and white wine cream sauce. We ended our meal on both a sweet and savoury note with a classic sticky toffee pudding and cheeseboard – the perfect end to the evening. To drink, we enjoyed an elderflower and pomegranate soft drink, which was delightfully refreshing and cleansed the palate. There’s also a fine range of wine, beer and spirits for those looking to enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple alongside your meal. The kitchen staff are also happy to cater for those with dietary requirements, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free diets. This restaurant also offers traditional, hearty Sunday roasts, which are perfect to enjoy at a family gathering.

The restaurant boasted a lively yet relaxing atmosphere, as the dining room was full of visitors and hotel guests alike enjoying friendly chat whilst tucking into their dishes of choice. The waiting staff were an utter delight, attentive and kind, with smiles for everyone. Restaurant manager Alan Li was a friendly face, giving each and every guest a warm welcome. It was clear that many diners were loyal customers. Spacious, modern and well-designed, the hotel has ideal areas for event packages, meetings and corporate events.
