Romeo's by the Sea

Its position, just a stone's throw from the beach, coupled with its romantic atmosphere renders Romeo's by the Sea aptly named in more ways than one. Upon entering this friendly establishment, we were warmly greeted by Marco, who attended to our every need for the duration of our visit. Our table was ready and waiting, and a generous serving of olives tickled our tastebuds whilst we deliberated over the menu. For starters, we opted for the polpette gratinate - a generous portion of meatballs topped with melted mozzarella in a spicy tomato sauce - and the tenderest scallops cooked in a subtly zesty lemon butter.

We then sampled the spaghetti gamberi - a wonderful muddle of fresh pasta and king prawns, enlivened by garlic, chilli, white wine and parsley. The agnello all'aceto balsamico - best-end of Welsh lamb with balsamic vinegar, onions, red wine and rosemary - was beautifully presented and served with a medley of vegetables and roast potatoes. The sauce, in particular, was exquisite.

We ended our meal with slices of both the Baileys and Galaxy cheesecakes, and loved every indulgent mouthful. A palate cleansing flute al limone - a very refreshing homemade lemon ice cream - saw us off into the night after a thoroughly enjoyable evening
