Torquay is now one of Devon’s top destinations for dining out and the Orchid Restaurant, situated on the first floor of the award-winning Corbyn Head Hotel, is one you can’t afford to miss. The accolades that this seafront restaurant has won speak for themselves – it has once again been awarded three AA rosettes, and is currently one of only six restaurants in Devon to have received a three AA rosette rating. This year they have also won a UK Top Scorer award and star in the highly acclaimed Londonbased Harden’s Restaurant Guide.

The Orchid benefits from an amazing location, with stunning views across Torbay from the Torquay Marina to Brixham’s Berry Head. The restaurant is furnished in a contemporary style, which is simply stunning with light sunny tones and crisp white linen. On arrival at the Corbyn Head Hotel guests are served canapés and pre-meal drinks in the lounge or bar before being escorted to the restaurant.

Against a backdrop of stunning sea views framed by the scenic arched windows, diners can select such stunning creations as goat’s cheese spring roll with beetroot sorbet and beetroot tartar; Brixham crab cocktail with avocado ice cream; or the fresh notes of the citrusmarinated salmon with deep-fried oysters. Main course options include delights such as locally-caught roast sea bass with crab ravioli and caramelised fennel and vanilla; Devonshire beef fillet with duck-fat-roasted potatoes, parsnip fondant, garlic butter and cep foam; and a beautifully composed saddle of venison, with sweet braised red cabbage, garlic mash, hazelnut butter and liquorice.

Indulge in warm banana cake, cookie ice cream and caramelised banana, or vanilla cheesecake with rhubarb and rhubarb sorbet from a plethora of mouth-watering desserts. Finally, house-ground Arabica coffee is served with the finest selection of petit fours. Lunches are served daily, with prices from £20.95 per person, and evening meals from £30.95 per person. Life doesn’t get much better than this.
