Torquay
Elephant Bar and Restaurant
The Elephant Bar & Restaurant opened in September 2003 on Beacon Terrace, Torquay harbourside, with the aim to create a top-quality restaurant and bar in the centre of Torquay, purveying the best food, beverages and service that the region has to offer.
The building, two Georgian terraced houses built in 1810, was extensively refurbished into a relaxed and elegant ground floor restaurant and first floor bar. The Elephant has built an enviable reputation as one of the South West’s top eateries and is the only Michelin-starred restaurant in Torquay centre.
Serving elegant European brasserie food, through menus responsive to the change in seasons and showcasing the best of Devon’s local produce, head chef Simon Hulstone is a winner of the Roux Scholarship and to date the only British chef to win gold in the World Chefs Championships in France. Holder of more than 30 international gold medals and supported by a team of young chefs, including the ‘British Apprentice of the Year’, Simon and his brigade recently won ‘South West Chef of the Year’ in both the professional and young professional categories for 2005/06.
This is the place to relax with a glass of the Bollinger house champagne – one of 20 wines by the glass – or perhaps a cocktail, and watch the sun set over Torbay before choosing from a selection of innovative bar snacks or dining in the restaurant. The Elephant delivers quality with style.
