At Ston Easton a real treat awaits those who are wearied by the same old eateries. The two AA rosette-winning Sorrel Restaurant offers the discerning guest a taste of the exceptional. Nestled within the Mendip Hills, this breathtaking 18th-Century mansion is easily accessible and extremely welcoming. You can enjoy the highest standard of service, reminiscent of a bygone age, in salubrious, newly refurbished surroundings. The entrance gates have a 'secret garden' look about them, urging you to explore, and you will not be disappointed. You cannot help but be impressed by the Palladian facade and, once inside, the warmth of the building and the staff emanates unreservedly. You can start your evening with a relaxing aperitif in the stunning Grand Saloon, once hailed 'the most beautiful room in Somerset', before moving into the Sorrel Restaurant itself, which boasts crisp white napery, decorative Wedgwood china and grand windows that overlook the cascading River Norr.

The eclectic à la carte menu features local seasonal produce of the highest quality, guaranteeing absolute freshness, and head chef Michael Parke ensures that ingredients are taken from Ston Easton's own productive kitchen garden wherever possible. Michael's inspired modern European dishes include herb-crusted rack of Mendip lamb with crushed Jersey Royal potatoes, carrot and cardamom, and fillet of wild sea bass with home-grown braised baby leeks, Champagne and lemongrass. The decadent desserts are under the control of Michael's wife Jo, and are made with home-grown fruit and plenty of skill. The selection might include Bramley apple crumble soufflé or chocolate and cherry mille-feuille with white chocolate and chilli sauce. Lunchtime guests can choose from a separate dailychanging à la carte menu, which features a selection of dishes aimed at those with time restraints, and Sunday lunch here is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. With a beautiful front terrace for alfresco dining, exquisite service and the opportunity for formal or relaxed outings, it's easy to see why the Sorrel Restaurant is counted among the finest restaurants in Somerset.
