Some would argue that if you want a good Chinese meal, you can find quality and authenticity, equal to that found in Hong Kong, right here in England; and this traditional English country public house certainly seems to prove the point. Cantonese dishes, from an extensive menu, present a palette of wonderful food colours which are far more Monet than MSG.
Delicately flavoured dishes made with the freshest of ingredients are cooked to perfection by Mr Mann, the Chinese chef. Portions are generous and the prices, considering the quality of the food, are hard to beat. Choose a variety of dishes to be shared between two or more people and sample a little of everything. Your food is kept hot on candle plate-warmers, while finger bowls and traditional chopsticks add to the genuine nature of the experience.
Forget ornate decor and dancing dragons; make no mistake – this is a pub. The Cantonese food and good company is what the regulars go for, and on Friday and Saturday evenings front of house owner Nick Payne often has to turn people away, such is this restaurant’s popularity. It is therefore always wise to book in advance. If you are in a hurry there is a takeaway service – just phone, order and collect. For Chinese food near Stevenage, this is the place to eat.
