With two restaurants, a tavern bar and function suite all under one roof, the quirky Dickens Inn certainly has a lot to offer. On the first floor you’ll find a unique pizzeria serving amazing ‘beast pizzas’, big enough to share between five. On the top floor, championing classic pub favourites, is the charming Grill Restaurant where we enjoyed a superb meal. My baked Camembert with sweet tomato chutney and warm ciabatta was large enough to share, but far too delicious. My partner’s flat-top mushroom was served on warm, crusty bread and smothered in a wonderful garlic and mustard sauce. Next, maintaining the high standards of the preceding dishes was a roast half-chicken marinated in jerk seasoning with creamy sweet potato mash and homemade coleslaw, and a chargrilled gammon steak with twice-cooked chips. The outcome: two squeaky-clean plates and two very satisfied customers.
