The White Hart pub and restaurant can be found on the border of Pennington and Lymington. The 200-year-old building was refurbished in 2005, and its atmospherically lit dining area makes you relax immediately. Low ceilings, an ancient fireplace and flickering candles on every table make a fine setting for a romantic meal.

The focus is traditional English cuisine, although don’t let that fool you; seated for your meal you might think you’re in a chic London bistro rather than a seaside inn.

Prices are reasonable for such quality food, and staff are welcoming and helpful. The choicest starters are the seafood salad (£4.95), and homemade duck and orange parfait (£5.95) – both complemented by delicious bread. Main course delights include fishcakes with buttered spinach and seasonal vegetables (£8.25), and beer-battered cod fillets with chips and crushed peas (£8.25).

The White Hart offers more than just great food, though. A quiz every Monday and other regular theme nights are just some of the other attractions offered in this quaint establishment.

Wines from around the world, an array of draught beers, and mouth-watering food will tempt you back time and again, too.
