The picturesque village of Burchetts Green, just off the A4, is the home of the Crown - very much at the heart of the village and much more than simply a place for locals to gather.
The building itself dates back to the 1800s, and the open fire place, cosy bar and beautiful beer garden are promising.
And this is where the Crown really starts to stand out from its competitors: as we read through the menus, we were given beautiful Italian olives and bread and oil to keep hunger at bay. It's the little touches that count.
To start, we chose Parma ham, sunblushed tomato and rocket served with homemade Italian bread (£6), and mussels cooked in white wine, garlic, red onion and olive oil (£7).
For the main course my partner chose pan-fried pork chop with creamed parmesan leeks and mashed potato (£12) which was just what was needed on a cold night. I had the king prawns sautéed in chilli and garlic served with dressed leaves (£12) with a portion on the best fries in Berkshire to dip in the chilli and garlic butter.
A blackboard with all the home-made desserts on was presented to us and after a lot of discussion we decided to share the deep filled lemon tart (£5) - a great decision.
We had a really relaxing evening with great food and friendly service - the Crown at Burchetts Green was a real find.
