Bizzie Lizzie's on Skipton's Swadford Street has been wowing the local community and tourists alike with its superb fish and chips for over 24 years. With a variety of accolades to its name, including the Seafish Industry Authority award for 'Fish and Chip Shop of the Year' in 1999, a five-star rating from the UK Seafish authority, and the 'Investors in People' award, Bizzie Lizzie's offers more than you might first expect.

The restaurant's ideal situation and immaculate frontage often turns heads, and its waterside location allows you to taste their version of the UK's national dish whilst enjoying fantastic views of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the two-storey restaurant, you can watch the slow barges and water taxis meander to and from the market town of Skipton.

The team at Bizzie Lizzie's specialise in traditional homemade British dishes. Try the combination starter, a delicious platter of garlic chicken goujons, crispy battered fish bites, garlic mushrooms, wholetail premium scampi, salad garnish and a selection of dips. The award-winning fish menu showcases quality seafood that's a cut above the standard fish and chip fare. Bite into the crisp jumbo battered haddock or breaded fillet of plaice; all are served with chips, garnish and a wedge of lemon. You can also request bread and a pot of homemade tartare sauce with any main dish. From the specials menu, sample one of the classics, such as steak and kidney pie with pastry crust and chips, or the warming chilli con carne with chips and a crisp side salad. Many British restaurants have opted out of traditional desserts such as the Knickerbocker Glory and the ice cream sundae; but here you can tuck into sundaes such as the Caramel Nutcracker (toffee fudge sauce, vanilla ice cream, hazelnut crunch and chocolate flakes), the Raspberry Dream (sharp, juicy raspberries, meringue and ice cream) or the aptly named Honeycomb Heaven (honeycomb chips, ice cream and chocolate sauce). Alternatively go for other favourites such as fruit pie and sticky toffee pudding - remember to check the daily sweet menu.

On the other side of town you'll find Bizzie's: sister restaurant and second venue of the Bizzie Lizzie's group. Behind the town hall and very close to the old market and famous cobbled High Street, Bizzie's is housed in a period building and has been busy forming a well-deserved reputation for quality food and excellent customer service. Of course, the fish dishes are all present, as well as lunchtime specials and hearty breakfasts, all of which are available to eat in or takeaway. Both restaurants offer senior citizen specials, such as fish and chips or fish salad with coleslaw, completed with an ice cream. You can eat in or take away at both establishments, leaving you free to take advantage of the comfortable dining areas, enjoy their award-winning food at home, or eat as you stroll along the canal.

These fantastic family-run businesses are favourites within Skipton's community - an unsurprising fact when you consider their regular competitions and events, great value for money and excellent home-cooked food.
