The Best Western Westminster Hotel is housed in beautifully converted Victorian houses, and its restaurant is something of a rare find in today's dining scene. A gem amid a city overflowing with themed, chain and over-styled restaurants, this hotel is family owned and run, something clearly demonstrated through the personalised service it provides - comfort, honest service, value for money and quality.
The Westminster's restaurant offers a traditional yet diverse menu - even the pickiest of palates could find a favourite here. Fresh and locally sourced food is paramount, with a menu that changes regularly to reflect the seasonal availability of local produce and, of course, to keep its abundance of regular diners happy. Starters are all priced at around £4, offering traditional dishes such as chicken liver paté or warm goat's cheese tartlet. Interestingly the goat's cheese used here hails from a farm less than five miles away. Main courses start at £10.95 and include classics such as grilled fillet of Scotch salmon served with a clementine sauce, or three-bean beef casserole. The restaurant offers a separate and interesting menu for vegetarians, which has been carefully compiled to ensure flavour and quality shine through in dishes such as courgette, spinach and basil lasagne. There is always a 'chef's roast of the day' on offer, a fantastic succulent steak choice and a varied menu of salad platters. All main courses are complemented with a choice of potatoes, rice, seasonal vegetables or salad.
Customers always seem to find it difficult not to be tempted by the Westminster's dessert menu, offering mouth-watering favourites such as treacle sponge, strawberry shortcake and Bramley apple pie. Finishing your meal with a cheese platter, coffee floater or liqueur coffee is also a must. The wine list offers something for everyone, with Champagne and sparkling wine always available, along with a bar offering a variety of spirits and beers. So whether you are looking for a traditional Sunday lunch, peaceful evening meal or an affordable family get-together, there is simply no better place to enjoy good food, good service and a good drink
