The Goth
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants

227-229 High Street, Prestonpans, EH32 9BE

Set to the east of Edinburgh, and dating from 1908, this family-friendly pub has a unique, atmospheric style. You see, this is a pub with a difference - it has its own microbrewery next to the bar, and profits are returned to the community through local arts projects, such as the painting of numerous murals throughout the town. With a bar, bistro, regular live music, exhibitions from local artists and a local menu (including a special fish menu on a Friday), The Goth has something for everyone.
Containing award-winning food, the menu is excellent and, because The Goth is part of East Lothian Food & Drink, most of it is sourced locally. Starters include a succulent prawn cocktail and homemade fishcakes and mains are no less delicious. The menu regularly changes, though the Sunday roast and various curries are regularly featured. Recommended dishes include beef madras and locally caught haddock, which can be grilled, breaded or battered and comes with a large portion of chips. Finally, a special mention must be made of the desserts, all of which are made on the premises - the delicious apple crumble and the rich, sticky banoffee pie are particularly deserving of praise.
The Goth is a fantastic and vibrant bar and bistro, which really does boast a sense of community. Oh, and make sure you try one of the fine beers brewed on the premises.
