Pinto is a fast-growing restaurant group that specialises in affordable, fresh and healthy Mexican street food. Found in convenient city centre locations, the first Pinto opened at 138 Queen Street in 2011 and has now expanded to a total of five sites across Glasgow and Edinburgh.
As Queen Street is where it all started for Pinto, this was the branch we decided to visit to check out the group's offerings. Inside, authentic Mexican music helped to set the scene, and we got our tastebuds going with a serving of nachos alongside some tasty salsa and sour cream dips, all complemented by couple of nice cold Brahma beers.
We followed with some barbacoa beef tacos, which were piled high with the spicy slow-braised shredded beef, shredded Romaine lettuce, Monterey Jack cheese and sour cream and salsa. We also opted for the mouth-watering bare burrito (so named as this option comes without the tortilla) that came with chargrilled chicken marinated with an adobo rub, as well as marvellous coriander and lime rice, a choice of pinto or black beans, salsa, cheese and sour cream. At £5.95 each, these were an absolute steal, and went down well with some excellent Margaritas.
If our options don't sound up your street, then don't worry as the varied menu includes all the Mexican staples of nachos, burritos, quesadillas, tacos and salads, with several types of beer, wine, Margaritas and lemonade to back them up.
As Pinto is a forward-thinking group, you can place your order online so that it's ready to pick up as soon as you walk in, thanks to the click and collect service, or, if you order after 5.30pm, you can have your food delivered direct to your door. This new and vibrant brand is one to watch
