Conveniently situated beside George Square and Merchant City, Bacchus boasts a head chef who challenges traditional perceptions of what constitutes 'bar food'. The menu hosts a variety of favourites such as nachos, steak and burgers, as well as many dishes influenced by the Orient and Middle East. To start I ordered the Thai chicken broth - a restaurant special - which lived up to my already mounting expectations. The exotic perfume of the Thai spices felt reassuringly warming, whilst the chilli gave the dish a fantastic kick. My guest ordered the haggis tempura, which was equally mouth-watering. Lime, coriander, potato and roast pepper patties followed, offering an interesting contrast of textures, and the Bacchus minted lamb burger was a fantastic Middle Eastern adaptation of a favourite Western dish. Hot chocolate fudge cake and homemade cheesecake provided a luxurious finale. There is also an impressive drinks menu including a wide selection of exquisite cocktails; if you are looking for something slightly different, try one of the beers or ciders from around the globe. A two-course menu is available all day, priced at £9.95, with a choice of three starters and four mains. And don't miss Thursday's Steak 'n' Fajita Night, which offers an 8oz sirloin, rump or rib-eye for just £9.95. If you're in the heart of Glasgow's city centre and in need of some deliciously memorable cuisine, then a visit to Bacchus should not be missed. Looking for a unique venue for a party?
