The Waterline is a great place to spend an afternoon watching the world go by. The World's End is situated half way up Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile, on the site of the old gates to the city and the famous Flodden Wall. In the 16th Century, the local citizens of Edinburgh believed the gates marked the end of their world, hence the pub's name. The menu here is extensive, with a strong Scottish theme. To start, we had the flavoursome black pudding and the 'wee taste of Scotland', made with MacSween's award-winning haggis. To follow we chose the fresh fish and chips, which were so large you'd have to see it to believe it, while the 28-day-matured rib-eye steak was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour. Our meals were accompanied by a selection of Scottish ales and topped off with traditional Cranachan, made with raspberries and toasted oats. A dram of malt whisky, from the excellent selection, ensured we finished in the time-honoured Scottish style a pub like this deserves.
