The Spice Pavilion is located near many local attractions and galleries and is run by an experienced family team. Cristina Khan takes care of the front-of-house, while Parweez cooks up cuisine inspired by the Mumbai, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Kashmir regions of India in the kitchen. To begin, we enjoyed an Indian classic with a clever nod to the restaurant's Edinburgh location: delicately made samosas filled with haggis from nearby butcher, Crombie. We also tried the puri filled with plump, juicy prawns. Both dishes had a piquant kick, which was held in check by the accompanying salad and sauces. For mains, we chose the chicken kolhapuri - a regulars' favourite - which was kindly prepared especially to suit our sensitive palates and comprised a wonderful blend of spicy masala, coriander and chilli. Tender lamb biryani, side dishes of roast aubergine and fluffy naan bread and a sweet, smooth pistachio kulfi for dessert completed our fine feast
