Situated at the heart of Edinburgh’s bustling old town, Spatch specialises in mouth-watering chicken, burgers, ribs and steak. The atmosphere is lively, and the upbeat staff achieve the perfect level of attentiveness. The decor combines contemporary style with vintage touches, with exposed brick, industrial lighting and fl oral tapestry upholstery.
I sampled the centrepiece of the menu, the spatchcock chicken, which was wonderfully tender and juicy, with crisp, herb-encrusted skin complemented by a range of tasty homemade sauces. My partner opted for the chicken burger, comprising succulent barbecued meat served with crisp candied bacon. The accompanying homemade chips were light and fluffy, the macaroni cheese bites were deliciously comforting, and the juicy corn on the cob was cooked to perfection and dripping with garlic butter. Portions were generous but we couldn’t say no to dessert. My chocolate torte with orange sorbet boasted beautifully fresh citrus flavours, while my partner’s salted caramel cheesecake was exceptional. To accompany your meal, there’s a varied drinks menu that caters for all tastes. I tried the fruity Passionberry Fizz cocktail, but there’s a great selection of beer like the locally brewed Caledonian Coast to Coast IPA.
For a group get-together complete with delicious food and drink, you won’t find a better destination than Spatch.
