The Newsroom on Leith Street makes a remarkable fi rst impression; floor-to-ceiling windows are lit up by jars filled with halogen bulbs. Venture past the quirky exterior and you’ll emerge in a contemporary space with an industrial feel and a welcoming atmosphere of post-work bonhomie. Take in the exposed girders and solid wood, with a quirky collage of reclaimed doors lining the snug dining area, and make yourself at home.
The menu offers pub fare on its best behaviour, with favourites such as haggis, neeps and tatties presented alongside plenty of burger options and the usual suspects, like crunchy beer-battered haddock and chips.
Like any good media outlet, The Newsroom gives the people what they want. For me, that was a bowl of creamy carrot and coriander soup, exquisitely balanced and vivid in colour. To follow, I tucked into beautifully tender beef Stroganoff served on a bed of fragrant mixed wild rice, which proved to be a fantastically tasty delight. A delicious pairing of chocolate and fudge made for an equally impressive dessert – you simply have to try this sweet and rich combination. As for drinks, cocktails are The Newsroom’s headliners. Choose from the likes of the fragrant Perfect Stormy with hints of ginger and lime, and the refreshing You Takin’ the Peche.
Whether you’re visiting for drinks or dinner, this newsworthy bar and restaurant will have you returning time and again.
