Everest Nepalese Restaurant provides the perfect place to unwind - the decor is subtle, and the candlelight and Nepalese music create a relaxed atmosphere. Nepalese owner Baikuntha Maharjan and his family have created a menu based around the eclectic flavours and home-cooking techniques used across Nepal. In fact, the spices used are imported directly from Nepal, lending a noticeable feel of authenticity to each dish.
To start I had the lamb momo, a dish of steamed minced meat with Nepalese spices and Nepali dip. Baikuntha informed me it is a dish people eat in Nepal every day, and I can understand why - it was a tasty, succulent dish that would also work as a supper or snack. My partner's Himalayan soup was delightfully creamy and featured a perfect blend of Himalayan herbs, chicken, spring mehi, coriander and avocado. To follow, I had the Nepali thali, which featured a delicious array of curries, dahl, achar and naan bread. Diners can choose a chicken, lamb or vegetable thali, all of which are served with chargrilled aubergine, mushroom and lentils.
This family-run restaurant brings a taste of authentic Nepalese and Indian cuisine to Edinburgh, and offers a truly memorable dining experience to its customers. If you weren't a fan of Nepalese cuisine before, you will be after dining at Everest Nepalese Restaurant
