Bonsai - Broughton Street

14 Broughton Street, Edinburgh, EH1 3RH

Bonsai brings all the flavour of the Far East to Edinburgh, offering a welcoming ambience, friendly service and, of course, all your favourite Japanese dishes. There are two of these fabulous Japanese restaurants in Edinburgh. Broughton Street is located right in the heart of Edinburgh, amidst the cultural hub and general bustle of the capital. Just a short walk to the city's Playhouse, Bonsai is well placed for a meal before or after a performance, and is equally delightful for a lunchtime treat if you've been hitting the shops along nearby Princes Street. We headed towards a slightly quieter part of town: to Bonsai on West Richmond Street. With views towards Arthur's Seat, West Richmond Street ideally located for a meal after a meander around Holyrood Park. The restaurant may be small, but it's perfectly formed, attracting a varied clientele. Japanese memorabilia adorns the walls, while the daily specials board tempts you with the likes of nabe (Japanese hotpot) and wasabi peas. I chose the delicious teriyaki beef, which was cooked in classic sweet soy sauce with a side of gohan (Japanese steamed rice). My partner's choice of breaded chicken katsu with tonkatsu sauce, salmon maki and yakisoba (traditional noodles) also proved a hit. Whether you're a sushi fan or simply looking to challenge your palate and try something new, both Bonsai restaurants are well worth a visit.
