You don't have to travel over 1000 miles for an authentic Italian experience. Walk over the threshold of Il Bacio and you will be greeted with a true Italian welcome and the mouth-watering aromas of freshly baked bread and oregano - it's a little like walking into the home of an old Italian friend.
Mimmo, the chef and owner of this delightful restaurant, truly loves to cook, and his passion comes across in every dish he and his family lovingly prepare. Of course, the menu offers a fabulous selection of pasta and pizza, but there are also dishes on offer from across Italy; and of course, each one of Il Bacio's daily specials are homemade.
The night we visited, we found ourselves tempted by homemade pasta with a rich rabbit ragout and mussels - Mimmo's speciality. The fish of the day, chosen by my guest, was oven-baked sea bass; this was expertly filleted at our table by one of the attentive waiters and served with fresh vegetables. I plumped for the fillet Rossini, and needless to say this passed with flying colours; the beef was fabulously tender, and the sauce rich and flavoursome.
Having looked forward to dessert since the beginning of the evening, we plumped for a homemade chocolate torte and a tiramisu. Both dishes were out of this world. The wine list offers something to suit every pocket and occasion, from the fabulous Montepulciano house red, at only £11.95 per bottle, to Champagne. This lovely restaurant simply begs to be visited. And, as with Italy, once you have visited you will long to return.
