In the historic town of Battle, Nobles Restaurant stands out on the High Street as modern, contemporary and fresh. Paul Noble (chef profile page 62), a chef for over 28 years, and his wife Debbie have created a restaurant that offers diners of today exactly what they are looking for: fresh, seasonal, local and unpretentious food that is, above all, very good value for money.

You can sample a two-course set lunch at the cleverly priced cost of £10.66, or, if you prefer, go for one of their mouth-watering à la carte dishes.

They also offer an additional ‘pop in’ dinner menu which is available Monday to Thursday (all year except December) at £8.50 for one of their special main courses. They have also introduced ‘the Sussex steak experience’ which offers local Sussex breed beef, perfectly cooked exactly to your specification.

Expect to start with the likes of three-way tuna (tuna tartare, tuna Scotch egg and seared tuna) or a chicken, chorizo and sunblushed tomato risotto with smoked paprika oil, rocket and Parmesan. Main-course options might see you tuck into Romney Marsh saddle of lamb with cauliflower cheese and fondant potato. Nobles also prides itself on looking after its vegetarian and vegan customers and those with allergies. It is advisable to book as Nobles is rightfully very popular with locals and tourists alike.
