Dough Bistro just goes to show what you can do with not very much money, lots of imagination and a reasonable pricing policy. This sparkling little enterprise has 12 tables, 30 seats and what is described as a ‘low-choice menu’, which means half a dozen starters, a sorbet, half a dozen mains and, you guessed it, half a dozen puddings.

No money is wasted on unnecessary fripperies, a typical menu consists of tempura of artichoke with mixed leaves, hummus and nut dressing for starters, fillet of beef with red wine jus for a main and warm chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Sounds good and tastes even better I assure you. Though it’s now licensed, Dough is still ‘bring your own’ where alcoholic drinks are concerned, with no corkage charge. The food on offer is all top notch and the phrase ‘in a class of their own’ could have been coined specifically for this jaunty little eaterie.

Should seafood risotto bless the starters menu on your visit I can certainly give it the nod, along with chicken breast stuffed with spinach and ricotta cheese. Believe me, you’ll thank me. Enjoy, and an extra notch along the belt is an absolute must on leaving. So, should your dining partner be of serious intent, financially prudent and addicted to decent food, you will receive high marks and he or she might even offer to bring the wine next time.
