Backed by Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd, Mimosa’s celebrity credentials are well known. However, this establishment has something to offer beyond the hype. Described by The Sunday Times as ‘this year’s restaurant for Cardiff’, a winner of the prestigious Penderyn Whisky’s ‘Restaurant of the Month’ award and twice nominated for ‘Best Restaurant’ in the Echo’s annual Food & Drink Awards, Mimosa has obviously not escaped the critics’ attention either. The wide-ranging menu (available in Welsh and English) offers diners options from breakfast through to dinner. There are plenty of dishes for vegetarians and the options are kept fresh with daily specials and desserts. The breakfast menu serves up delicious smoked mackerel and scrambled eggs, as well as the hugely popular ‘Full Welsh’. The à la carte menu includes traditional Welsh dishes such as cawl served with granary bread and Gorwydd cheese, lunch favourites such as the Welsh Black beef burger and mouth-watering mains such as seared tuna with sweet chilli salsa. As well as featuring award-winning Welsh produce such as organic Perl Las blue cheese, all dishes are homemade and make use of seasonal, local and free-range ingredients where possible – even the coffee, tea and sugar are Fairtrade certified. Finally, there is a list of over 20 wines to wash it all down. Mimosa’s chic decor, relaxed ambience and bilingual service, provided by a knowledgeable team, combine to create one of Cardiff’s finest, yet most reasonably priced eateries.
