You would think that when I say I know the menu at Zerodegrees back to front, I was exaggerating – I’m not. I have lunched there so frequently that just about everything on the menu has been tried and tested by my critical tastebuds.

The food here is excellent. The open kitchen leaves you in no doubt as to the careful preparation and quality of fresh ingredients that combine to result in your chosen dish. Pick and mix from a mouth-watering array of salads, mussels, pasta dishes and, of course, pizzas. Name it, and Zerodegrees have put it on a pizza. Stone-baked to order salmon and marscapone, caramelised pear and Gorgonzola and Peking duck with artichoke are just some of the generously-sized gourmet pizzas on offer, and with prices ranging from £6.75 to £8.95 they are extremely reasonable. The lunchtime deal at just £5.95 is ideal for a midday refuel, and normally contains a choice of a delicious salad, a hearty sandwich, a gourmet pizza and a substantial helping of something adapted from the main menu. Available Monday to Friday and regularly changing, there isn’t a better lunch break in the city. Centrally located and within strolling distance of the rest of Bristol’s nightlife, slide into Zerodegrees and experience gloriously unfussy and wholesome modern European cuisine. With a band of regulars, among whom I count myself, Zerodegrees is definitely doing something very right. Long may their success continue.
