They may not know immediately that they have the winning formula, but a combination of stylish surroundings, excellent food, a dazzling range of drinks and relaxed atmosphere, has people coming back time and time again. A place that does all of this is Bar 163. Originally a unique and eclectic venue based in Egham its clear vision of uncomplicated food in an informal setting was soon a hit and eventually the owners found the perfect spot in Chertsey to expand. Having acquired the once neglected Old Town Hall, they spent 18 months painstakingly restoring the building ready for the grand opening. Now, Bar 163 in Egham and Chertsey sit side-by-side offering customers a combination of style and good food. Both restaurants have outside seating, Egham with its wonderful secret Mediterranean garden at the rear and Chertsey, which has ground floor seating throughout the summer, offering a great place to while away the afternoons. They even hold the occasional alfresco jazz evening, weather permitting. Both restaurants have free Wi-Fi and private dining rooms. You can expect to find a combination of old favourites mixed with innovative new dishes on the menus of both establishments. Starters such as baby red pepper stuffed with herb risotto, salsa verde and toasted almonds, buttered chicken liver parfait with caramelised onion jam and toasted brioche, and grilled sardines with chilli oil and brown bread and butter all feature and get your meal off to the best possible start. Follow on with homemade spiced meatloaf with dauphinoise potatoes and slowly roasted tomatoes, Moroccan style chicken thighs braised with apricots, almonds and raisins served with couscous and yoghurt dressing or lamb shank cooked in coconut, tomatoes, almonds and curry sauce served with sautéed spinach potatoes and cucumber dressing, and you will be one happy diner. During the day you can choose from lighter options like buffalo mozzarella and tomato bruschetta with spinach leaf and pesto and open feta, olive and caramelised onion tart with green salad and sautéed potatoes. Other light lunches include tasty sandwiches such as the baked bacon, Brie and redcurrant ciabatta or open prawn and dill sandwich on rye bread with rocket. There is also a breakfast menu for the early birds among you and a constantly changing specials menu to keep frequent visitors happy. Whatever you choose here you will come away satisfied, because that’s the thing about a winning formula – you find it and it’s yours forever. Bar 163 have certainly been let in on the secret. < return to search results |
