Modern and well presented, the restaurant it is housed in a grade two listed building, which is currently being renovated. Its history goes back to the 17th century when it was originally used as a coaching inn where Oliver Cromwell’s secretary once stayed, hence the name. When it comes to the food you are definitely spoilt for choice. You can either opt for a two or three course fixed priced menu at £17.50 or £19.50 respectively, or choose from the extensive and inviting à la carte menu. The appetisers begin the essential decisions ahead of you – decide on the chicken liver pate and you may miss out on the breaded camembert or the grilled tiger prawns – there are no easy decisions at Oliver’s. And the main course options don’t make things any simpler with tender duck breast in orange sauce, pork fillet with herb mash and a range of grills to choose from. They’re all presented professionally and with an air of elegance. An extensive wine list is also available, as well as an array of tempting desserts, a selection of cheeses and after dinner coffee or tea, if you so wish. Utter confidence is shown in the service, which is presented with an informative and friendly flair.
