Wesley House stands proud in the centre of historic Winchcombe, just minutes from the spectacular Sudeley Castle. We huddled into the welcoming Tudor timbered building to find a beautiful inglenook fireplace, a snug seating area and friendly staff. While we perused the à la carte menu, olives were delivered to the table alongside a selection of chilli-roasted nuts and the chef’s special canapés – simply delicious.

In the centre of the restaurant a wrought iron spiral staircase, adorned with flickering candles, creates a striking focal point. A complimentary celeriac velouté was deliciously warming and served alongside handmade crusty bread and tapenade. To start, I chose melt-in-the-mouth butternut squash, sage and Parmesan ravioli, whilst my partner sampled the light goat’s cheese and crottin mousse. Moving on to the main course – the roast guinea fowl was cooked to perfection and the caramelised Lincolnshire pork loin was simply irresistible. The tempting dessert menu offered lavish sticky toffee pudding and a brilliant pairing of dark-chocolate torte and raspberry sorbet. You won’t be at all surprised to learn that the restaurant holds two AA rosettes, nor that the bar and grill is also AA rosetted. Fantastic cuisine, made using superb local produce and served in stunning surroundings, makes a visit to Wesley House a sophisticated culinary journey from start to finish.
