There is something about a warm, comfortable pub that promotes a healthy appetite, and on entering the White Swan my stomach certainly began to rumble in anticipation. This is a beautiful historic building and, though deceptively spacious inside, the ultimate cosy pub - one which lies at the heart of the community.
Linda and David welcome everyone in, visitors and locals alike, to enjoy their delicious dishes. Well travelled and a dab hand in the kitchen, David has a wealth of experience when it comes to food. Every item on the menu is homemade and has been created to reflect the warm and inviting ambience which runs throughout the White Swan. With specials available from 5pm until 9pm and a main menu featuring starters, salads, vegetarian options, a children's selection and a 'comfort food' section, you will be spoilt for choice. Looking through the options, with delights like steamed mussels and fajitas catching my eye, we finally decided to tuck into an old-fashioned steak and kidney pudding, and a Geordie's winter lamb, finishing with some fantastically creamy Swiss ice cream. We were lucky to have come for our meal on the weekly quiz night, which is held every Tuesday evening, with a free supper, and supported by customers of all ages. David leaves his kitchen to act as benevolent host to this entertaining event, which is evidently enjoyed by everyone. I for one would be tempted to return every week to the White Swan.
