Found in a prime location near the university, the seafront and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, The Old Vic is a traditional pub with an attractive exterior and lovely cobbled courtyard. The pub has an excellent menu of local, home-cooked fare and a team of friendly staff to serve it. Our lunch began with light and crispy tempura prawns and creamy broccoli and Stilton soup. For the main course, succulent stuffed belly pork came complete with crackling and was delicious alongside crispy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and sweet roasted parsnips. The vegetarian Wensleydale and vegetable bake was also delightful. The puddings are not to be missed either – the chocolate torte was smooth and intense while the indulgent Baileys bread and butter pudding was, by far, the finest I’ve ever tasted. A function suite upstairs is available, free of charge, for private dining for groups of 12 or more.
