Open: Mon-Sun noon-3pm, 6pm-midnight
Situated in a beautiful Georgian square amongst the quiet back streets of Southsea, the Kitsch n d’or is regarded as one of the area’s best-kept secrets. This relaxed, French Breton-style bistro specialises in fresh seafood and classic French cuisine.
On the seafood side you will find a daily catch of fresh local fish caught specially for the restaurant by local fishermen, as well as signature dishes such as the assiette de fruit de mer, a beautiful array of shellfish, crabs and lobsters. Also on the menu you will find a wide range of other dishes – Balmoral venison in a velvet truffle sauce, very slow-cooked shoulder of Welsh lamb in wild rosemary, and local free-range pork baked with apples and cider and served with calvados cream.
The menu is generally a set price affair with three courses priced as low as £16.50 on Tuesdays and Sundays (jazz nights), and around £23.50 for four courses on other nights.
With monthly wine tastings and other specialist nights, it is well worth contacting in advance and booking is advised. The Kitsch n d’or prides itself on the accolades that it has received from professional food critics and regular customers, and believes in an ethos of buying locally, traceable free-range products wherever possible.
