The Barbican Kitchen brasserie is housed in the world-famous Plymouth Gin Distillery, which was once the resting place for the Pilgrim Fathers who set sail on the Mayflower to America in 1620. The restaurant itself was opened by the Tanner brothers in April 2006; together they modernised the building with cool and funky decor and fresh, cooked-to-order food.
The menu starts at just £9.95 for two courses for lunch or dinner (subject to the time of day). The chefs make use of the wonderful produce the West Country has to offer – fresh market fish is a popular menu staple. Alternatively choose your cut of meat from the grill, plus a sauce and your preferred accompaniment. Finish your meal with one of the Barbican Kitchen’s sumptuous desserts, such as sticky toffee pudding or something chocolatey and indulgent. Sunday lunch is a grand affair, great for the whole family; there is also a special children’s menu (children under five eat for free), plus balloons and colouring packs to keep the kids entertained while you dine.
For the adults, Plymouth Gin have their own stunning Refectory Bar next door, which is the perfect stop-off for a cheeky cocktail. The Barbican Kitchen provides the perfect all-round dining experience – make sure you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
