The intimate restaurant at the Hare and Hounds has continued to build its reputation in Newbury for providing fresh, locally sourced food in a fantastic home-from-home atmosphere. The menu is updated monthly and complemented by weekly specials. Everything is cooked to order by the talented chefs, including the heavenly desserts. It was a pleasure to be served by some of the friendliest staff I've come across.
From April to October, an extra 28 seats are available in the stunning observatory - one of the nicest outdoor dining locations in the area - while the bar is ideal for a relaxing pre-dinner drink or less formal meal. Wines are reasonably priced and of a high quality, thanks to the proprietor personally sourcing them, and there's always a selection of locally brewed real ales available. Friday is steak and grill night (£16.95 per person) and Thursday is curry night (from £8.95). With all this, as well as classic restaurant and bar menus, you'll be spoilt for choice. And with 30 modern bedrooms located in four separate buildings, this characterful inn ticks all the boxes.
