Come and discover Binham Grange - one of Somerset's best-kept secrets nestling near Blue Anchor, the Quantocks, Brendon Hills and Exmoor. This Jacobean house, dating back to 1291, was the Grange for Cleeve Abbey, but has been lovingly restored with modern comforts. The Grange is set in beautiful gardens with an afternoon tea terrace, surrounded by 300 acres of lush Somerset countryside grazed by the estate's own cows.
Dinner is served in the great dining hall and there is a small private dining salon and cosy sitting room for drinks, all warmly decorated. There are two beautifully appointed bedrooms, and the Grange is perfect for that special occasion: small weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, family parties or simply an intimate dinner for two. Marie and daughter Victoria make every effort to make your visit special.Vegetables and herbs are collected from the kitchen garden, meat is from Exmoor, fish from Brixham, eggs from Jill on the hill and the clotted cream and milk from the estate's cows. The emphasis is on freshness and taste using the best quality ingredients from the foccacia bread through to delicious desserts created by Victoria.
The day begins with freshly ground morning coffee, followed by light lunches of two or three-courses. Afternoon tea can be taken on the terrace or in the sitting room and can vary from traditional afternoon tea to bara brith (Welsh tea bread) or Victoria's sponges. Arrive for dinner at about 7pm to enjoy an aperitif before your four courses. Begin with a soup from the garden and foccacia bread, followed by fresh crab salad, or pears with honey, blue cheese and walnuts. Move on to the main course and sample Exmoor rack of lamb with a pesto crust and redcurrant jus, or pan-fried Brixham sea bass with watercress and roasted tomatoes, followed by delicious desserts of lemon posset, raspberry and almond meringue roulade or Somerset cheeses. Vegetarian and special diets can be catered for as everything is freshly prepared in the kitchen. A visit to Binham Grange is a memorable country and culinary experience.
