In the picturesque village of Horningsea, just ten minutes from Cambridge city centre, lies the Crown & Punchbowl, an old coaching inn that dates back to 1764. Today it is best described as a restaurant with rooms that serves a variety of modern British dishes and classic favourites.
This rustic venue boasts a distinct olde-worlde charm, a lively and inviting atmosphere and a large, crackling log fi re during winter. There are three cosy areas in the main dining area, as well as a private dining room which seats up to 18 guests. Adjacent to this you will find the recently refurbished conservatory, where guests staying in one of the five double rooms may take breakfast.
The management strives to offer guests a fine-dining experience with a restaurant menu that showcases quality ingredients and the chefs’ refined culinary skills. As such, the dishes available change daily and range from the traditional to the exotic. The trio of Korean-style suckling pig (cutlet, braised shoulder and confit belly) with cauliflower purée, a sweet potato beignet, homemade kimchi and barbecue sauce appears on the menu alongside tender fillet steaks with triple-cooked chips. Finish your meal with a trip to dessert heaven courtesy of the fresh forced rhubarb crumble with homemade granola, rhubarb Swiss roll and vanilla creme brulée, topped with rhubarb sorbet.
