‘The Golden Fleece has staked a claim as a superb venue for music, excellent food and an atmosphere which retains pub charm’, says the Nottingham Evening Post, and I doubt you’d find a soul in Nottingham who’d disagree. Located on Mansfield Road on the junction with Peel Street, The Golden Fleece is perfectly situated for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre, but equally it’s just a short walk away. Since a change of ownership in 2005, The Golden Fleece has built a solid reputation for, amongst other things, good quality food. This was recognised at the 2007’s Pub and Club awards where it won ‘Best Bar Food’.

The Sunday roast has become somewhat of a flagship at The Fleece, and encompasses what their food is all about – offering restaurant-quality food in a comfortable pub environment, and at pub prices. The popularity of this Sunday feast speaks for itself, and subsequently Sundays get very busy, so be sure to book a table between noon and 2pm.

The comparatively large menu, which runs from Mondays through to Saturdays, includes full English breakfasts, a wide selection of burgers, sandwiches, salads and ‘lite bites’. For those wanting something more substantial there are hearty main courses, from traditional bangers and mash to the more sophisticated salmon buerre blanc. The ingredients are locally sourced where possible and everything is freshly prepared to order. There is a vast selection of hand-pulled ales and world beers to wash it all down with, not to mention a spirit range synonymous with swanky city centre bars, but without the high prices.

The Fleece is certainly not short of entertainment; boasting Nottingham’s longest running open-mic night on a Monday, The Leftlion pub quiz on Wednesdays, bands on Thursdays and a massive rotating selection of DJs at the weekend, it really is a place not to be missed.
