Set seemingly in the middle of nowhere amid beautiful, leafy surroundings, this hotel and two-AA-rosette restaurant offers a delightfully unique dining experience. Award-winning chef Andrew Brookes is at the helm, serving up a sophisticated menu of carefully selected dishes.
After relaxing with a drink at the bar, we sat down to starters of pork terrine with toasted sourdough bread and asparagus served with duck egg. Both were beautifully presented and accompanied by a basket of warmed rolls with smoked butter. My main course was sea bream; two tender fillets of crispy-skinned fish were served with monk’s beard and patatas bravas. Meanwhile, my partner enjoyed the Nottinghamshire beef accompanied by fat chips. Both dishes came with a variety of tasty sauces and attractive garnishes. The desserts were equally eye-catching. I opted for the delicious selection of English cheeses which included a smooth goat’s cheese mousse. Served on a piece of slate alongside a slice of delicious fruit jelly, this dish certainly looked the part. My partner chose the tangy lemon curd tart with poached strawberries, soft chocolate mousse and strawberry sorbet.
The bar area is cosy with a comfortable leather suite and chairs, while the well-designed dining room features Neoclassical-style decor with a contemporary twist. This is certainly an elegant venue.
