The recently refurbished Royal Oak has built an excellent reputation not only as a classic country pub but a first-rate dining destination. The stylish interior offers several appealing dining spots to choose from. You might take a seat at a cosy table by the wood burner, in the smart, comfortable restaurant, or perhaps treat yourself to a private dining experience at the chef’s table. Alternatively, if the weather is fine, grab a spot at one of the tables on the decked front terrace or in the rear garden – which boasts a play area for the little ones to explore – and dine al fresco while admiring the stunning surrounding countryside.
The Royal Oak’s culinary team are dedicated to showcasing the best produce Kent has to offer in their wholesome homemade dishes. We got proceedings off to an excellent start with chicken liver paté and prawn cocktail – two perfectly executed classics. Next up for me was pan-seared lamb’s liver, which was so tender it cut like butter and was served with bubble and squeak and rich red wine jus. My companion, meanwhile, ordered the Majesty Oak Burger, featuring a generous, tender beef patty topped with bacon, smoked Cheddar, mustard mayo and barbecued pulled pork and served in a fluffy bun branded with a Royal Oak stamp. Apple and plum crumble with custard and sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and ice cream provided an exquisite finale to a memorable evening. The menu changes with the seasons and regular events are held here throughout the year, so there’s always something to return for at this must-visit pub.
