Situated on the main road through Moreton-in-Marsh, the newly renovated Swan Inn provides a welcoming break for travellers and an attractive spot for a cosy pub dinner. Recently under new family management the pub has undergone a transformation, with redecoration throughout and an appetising new menu attracting locals and tourists alike. The welcoming atmosphere created by the friendly new owners has turned the pub into a local hot-spot, with regularly scheduled special events and a reasonably priced tasty carvery on Sundays.
The inn is split into two areas – an intimate dining room and a larger bar area offering a great selection of ales, beers and drinks, as well as a pool table. They also have a skittle alley and a selection of seven en-suite rooms to accommodate those staying for more than just a meal. The menu presents simple, classic pub food all freshly prepared on site with local ingredients, supported by a good wine list. On arrival we were seated by the flickering log fire with a glass of full-bodied shiraz to sip while choosing our meals. I decided on creamy garlic mushrooms on toast with a crisp, fresh salad to start, and a rare sirloin steak with a hot peppercorn sauce and beautifully crunchy onion rings for my main course. My partner followed the recommendation of a delicious homemade paté to start, followed by a rich and perfectly seasoned steak and ale pie with fresh vegetables. The pudding selection included a sticky jam pudding with custard and wonderful homemade apple crumble, providing an indulgent end to our meal.
The Swan is a lovely, local Cotswold pub which offers really good quality, home-cooked food in a friendly and relaxed setting. The rejuvenation of the interior has brought a new lease of life to the building; The Swan Inn comes highly recommended for a satisfying and tasty meal if you’re out and about in the Cotswolds area.
