Minehead is a mixture of old traditions and seaside tourism, with many buildings of architectural interest and the beauty of Exmoor on its doorstep. Sashes Restaurant is close to the beginning of the West Somerset Coastal Path, set amongst the thatched cottages of Quay Street overlooking the sea, with wonderful views across the Bristol Channel to Wales.
Proprietors John and Joyce Frampton take pride in providing their guests with good food and hospitality. Working just as a husband and wife team they really do provide personal service. John takes charge of front of house, greeting both old and new guests warmly and courteously while Joyce delivers her culinary creations with flair and imagination.
The tastefully decorated dining room is warm and welcoming, with immaculate white and cream table linen, oak beams and an inglenook fireplace. All this combines to create a wonderful ambience. Sashes really lends itself to celebrating those special occasions and with room for only twelve covers is ideal for private parties. John and Joyce will also accommodate private lunch parties by special arrangement.
The emphasis is on freshly prepared good food and hospitality. Produce is locally sourced and the suppliers are proudly listed on the menu, even down to the hand-made chocolates.
All meat is naturally fed, and this is reflected in its flavour and texture. There is a variety of fish on the menu, including sea bass and Dover sole, delivered to the door fresh from the market.
From the choice of mixed starters you may like to try the red salmon pâté, deliciously light and creamy and served with crisp melba toast, or perhaps the breaded Somerset goat's cheese with mixed leaves, grapes and beetroot.
Main courses offer a selection of excellent fish and meat dishes, beautifully presented and accompanied by the most delightful selection of vegetables and potatoes.
Puddings change with the seasons, a particular favourite being summer pudding - a delicious, rich dariole of blackberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, and raspberries complemented with clotted cream ice cream.
