A new and very welcome addition to Manchester's host of top value eateries, El Sapo Perezoso, concentrates on the produce of sunnier climes with tapas dishes to die for at a price that won't do serious injury to the bank balance.

Belting bowlfuls of fragrantly steaming mussels, scallops seared to vanilla sweetness, butter-soft steaks and seductively browned fish perfumes the air. Diners stoked up on chorizo sausage cured to smoky perfection and chicken doused in a cream-laden sauce and spiked with lemon, await further treats that carry further Mediterranean influence.

These include traditional Spanish omelette heaped with potatoes, onion and garlic, juicy king prawns jacked with chilli oil, Serrano ham expertly paired with a peppery rocket salad, deep-fried whitebait emboldened by robust spicing and that true favourite of tapas-lovers everywhere - meatballs in tomato sauce - although an almond sauce version is also up for grabs for those who wish to try something a little bit different.

A second helping of gustatory bliss is not hard to find - namely the speciality American-style cheesecake - a wondrous concoction of deep and dreamy chocolate sponge with lashings of cream.

Wine from a nicely composed list is both reasonable on the pocket and extremely good in terms of taste, and all designed to enhance what is quite possibly Manchester's best tapas outlet
